How to install a suspended ceiling: The 5-step method
How to install a false ceiling without getting a wavy surface or an undersized frame? First, you need to choose between a suspended and self-supporting design, mark out a consistent height, follow the framing system, install the boards under proper conditions, and then treat the joints. These five steps depend on the existing support and the manufacturer's instructions.
A false ceiling can conceal networks, improve a finish, or accommodate insulation, but it must not hide a leak, a crumbling support, or a faulty electrical installation. If the load-bearing structure is unknown, if the dwelling is old, or if the span exceeds the limits of the chosen system, have the project checked before drilling.
1. Choose the right type of false ceiling

A suspended ceiling is connected to the upper support by hangers that carry furring channels. A self-supporting ceiling relies on peripheral rails and studs dimensioned according to the span. The former requires knowing the nature of the existing ceiling and permissible fixing points. The latter requires appropriate load-bearing walls and a span compatible with the chosen profile.
Note the length, width, and lowest point of the room. Note any conduits, cables, ventilation ducts, and light fixtures. Determine the thickness of any insulation, the height of spotlights, and the necessary access to equipment. A well-placed access panel avoids having to urgently cut a board later.
Use the span, spacing, and load tables from the frame and board manufacturer. Do not randomly combine rails, studs, hangers, and furring channels from incompatible systems. In a damp room, boards, accessories, and joint treatments must be suitable for exposure. Turn off the power before working near cables and entrust connections to a qualified person.
2. Mark out a perfectly consistent height

Locate the lowest point of the existing ceiling, then subtract the space needed for the frame, utilities, and insulation. This point becomes the reference. The Manuzen 4D 16-line green laser level projects 3 × 360° coverage and features self-leveling. It allows you to maintain a line around the room without constantly moving the device.
Place it on a stable support and let the self-leveling stabilize. Check the line at several points and mark it with a pencil. A laser facilitates marking, but does not correct a poorly chosen reference. Therefore, measure the distance between the line and the ceiling in several places before any fixing.
The beams should never be looked at directly. Keep children away and do not position the device at eye level. For details on marking out between floor and ceiling, also consult the Manuzen guide on aligning drywall tracks on the floor and ceiling: it addresses a more precise intention than the present complete project.

3. Assemble the frame without improvising center distances

Fix the peripheral profile to the marked line with fasteners compatible with the wall. On concrete, solid brick, hollow block, or partition, the same anchor does not yield the same result. Also locate conduits and cables with appropriate means before drilling. A dedicated guide already explains how to fix drywall tracks to concrete; here, the goal is to coordinate the entire ceiling.
Then install hangers and furring channels, or rails and studs, according to the chosen system. Respect the center distances and spans indicated in its documentation. Check for flatness with the laser and a suitable straightedge before adding insulation. A frame that appears regular to the eye can produce shadows and waves after painting.
The DEKO cordless drill driver offers several configurations from 12 to 20 V and up to 42 Nm. Adjust the torque to avoid damaging screw heads or profiles. It is not a substitute for a specialized screwdriver when speed or depth adjustment is required.
4. Install insulation and plasterboards

Install insulation and any membranes in accordance with the chosen composition, without obstructing any planned ventilation. Cables must remain accessible or protected according to applicable regulations. Photograph the utilities before closing the ceiling: this record will facilitate future interventions.
Boards are heavy and difficult to hold overhead. Work with two people or use a plasterboard lifter designed for their size. Wear safety glasses, gloves, and respiratory protection during cutting. Place the boards perpendicular to the furring channels when the system requires it, stagger the joints, and maintain the prescribed gaps at the periphery.
Screw without tearing the cardboard: the head should be slightly recessed, not penetrate the board's skin. If a screw is too deep, add another one at the correct distance rather than relying on the weakened fastening. Regularly check that the board is flush against the frame.
5. Complete joints and final check

Dust the edges, apply filler, and embed the tape without trapping air. Work in thin layers, gradually widening the area. Allow adequate drying time between coats. Aggressive sanding removes the cardboard and creates more defects; use a vacuum and grazing light to check the surface.
Check access panels, ventilation grilles, and light fixture openings before painting. No light fixtures or suspended furniture should be hung from the plasterboard alone: plan for reinforcement and fixing into the appropriate structure. Test electrical equipment only after checking connections.
The correct answer to "how to install a false ceiling" therefore depends less on a trick than on choosing a complete and documented system. Use the laser to mark a reliable reference, the drill with appropriate fasteners, and then adhere to the manufacturer's spans and center distances.
