Which cordless drill/driver to choose?

This collection features cordless drill/drivers from 12 to 21 V, compact, brushless, two-speed models, or those supplied with two batteries. It targets furniture assembly, fastening, general drilling, and maintenance work where mobility matters more than impact drilling into masonry.

The four features to compare

  • Voltage and format: 12 V platforms prioritize compactness and maneuverability; 18 to 21 V models aim for more power reserve. However, voltage alone does not summarize performance.
  • Torque and settings: The advertised torque, tightening positions, and two speeds help adapt the effort to screws and materials. A fine adjustment limits overtightening.
  • Chuck: Check the accepted diameter and the tightening type.
  • Batteries: Capacity, number of batteries, charger, and platform compatibility determine the actual run time. Never assume a battery is included without reading the product sheet.

Which model for your work?

For assembling furniture, installing hardware, or working in a tight space, a compact 12 V drill is often more pleasant. 16.8 to 21 V models are better suited for series of fastenings and more sustained drilling in wood or metal with the appropriate drill bit. A brushless version can offer more efficient operation and less motor maintenance, depending on its design. If the job is long, a two-battery kit reduces interruptions. For concrete and brick, head instead to the hammer drills and rotary hammers collection.

Safe use and chuck maintenance

Tighten the accessory correctly, remove the battery before any changes, and start at a moderate speed to center the drill bit. Wear eye protection and secure the workpiece. Only use explicitly compatible batteries and chargers; store them in a dry place, away from heat.
