How to choose an electric car charging station or charger?

This collection includes Type 2 wall-mounted charging stations, Wi-Fi models, portable Type 1 or Type 2 EVSE chargers, and a charging cable. Advertised power ratings range from approximately 3.5 to 22 kW depending on the model. The right choice depends first on the vehicle, the electrical installation, and the connector, not just the maximum power.

Four checks before purchase

  • Connector: Identify the vehicle's socket and the required standard: Type 1 or Type 2 depending on the model. On the grid side, also check the plug, phase, and intensity.
  • Accepted power: The car, the on-board charger, and the installation limit the actual power. A 22 kW charging station does not guarantee 22 kW charging for every vehicle.
  • Installation: A fixed charging station requires a properly sized circuit, suitable protections, and compliant installation. Have the project validated by a qualified professional.
  • Usage and cable: The portable charger is convenient for travel; the wallbox organizes regular charging.

Fixed wallbox or portable EVSE?

For daily home charging, a properly installed wall-mounted charging station offers a stable location and can integrate monitoring or Wi-Fi functions depending on the model. The portable charger is used when traveling or with explicitly compatible outlets, without turning an ordinary outlet into a high-power circuit. Choose the current based on the vehicle and the grid.

Installation and electrical safety

Never connect equipment whose connector, voltage, or current does not match. Have the ground, protections, conductor cross-section, and panel capacity checked. Avoid unauthorized extension cords and adapters. Inspect the cable, plug, and casing before each use, keep the connectors clean and dry, and stop use in case of overheating, odor, or defect. Observe national regulations and vehicle instructions.
