How to choose a ventilation or air conditioning solution?

Air conditioning, air extraction, humidity reduction, and air circulation are four different functions. This collection mainly includes portable air conditioners, but also duct fans, extractors, aluminum hoses, dehumidifiers, and evaporative coolers.

The four technical criteria

• Volume: Surface area, ceiling height, insulation, and sun exposure influence the required power or flow rate.
• Function: Cooling, extraction, dehumidification, and circulation do not produce the same result on indoor air.
• Installation: Check exhaust duct, duct diameter, air intake, available outlet, and condensate drainage.
• Comfort: Compare noise level, controls, timer, night modes, and consumption based on usage duration.

Which device for which problem?

A portable air conditioner actively cools a room compatible with its power and its duct to the outside. A dehumidifier targets excess humidity without replacing healthy ventilation. Extractors and duct fans renew or move air in a properly sized installation. An evaporative cooler produces a different effect than an air conditioner and depends on ambient conditions. The hose must match the planned diameter and temperature.

Installation and maintenance tips

Keep grilles clear, limit leaks around the duct, and do not plug a powerful appliance into an undersized extension cord. Clean filters, trays, and ducts according to instructions, monitor humidity, and ventilate regularly. Observe electrical regulations in damp rooms. For permanent extraction or wall penetration, have the sizing and installation validated.
