Cordless glue gun: five checks before buying
A cordless glue gun can clear up your workspace during decorations and small assembly projects. However, you still need to check the battery, the correct glue stick diameter, and the expected strength of the bond. The choice involves more than just power or the promise of rapid heating.
Before starting your autumn or Christmas creations, examine five points: materials, power supply, consumables, heating rhythm, and workstation safety. This method prevents purchasing a tool that seems practical but is unsuited to your project.
1. Verify that hot glue is suitable for the project

Hot-melt adhesive is suitable for certain decorative tasks, but its adhesion depends on the stick and the surfaces. Wood, cardboard, textile, or plastic do not all react the same way. Check the materials authorized by the glue manufacturer and test on comparable scraps before preparing the final piece.
Do not use it as a universal solution for a suspended load, a piece of furniture, or a repair subject to significant stress. Temperature variations and the environment can also affect the bond. Light table decorations do not face the same constraints as an object fixed to a wall above a high-traffic area.
Clean and dry the contact areas according to the material's recommendations. Varnish, dust, or a greasy surface can compromise the bond. On a heat-sensitive support, the test must check for both holding power and the absence of deformation, stains, or visible marks.
Finally, define the time available to put the elements in place. Some glues set quickly and are difficult to reposition. Do a dry run before heating the gun: you will verify access, the position of the pieces, and how to hold them without touching the glue.
2. Confirm the battery and package contents

The Yofidra model is presented for 18V power and compatibility with certain Makita-type batteries. This does not mean that all references with the same voltage are interchangeable. Have the specific battery, mount, and corresponding charger confirmed before purchasing.
The product page specifically shows an option without a battery and one with two batteries. Check the chosen variant and the exact list of what will be delivered. Do not assume that a charger, a specific capacity, or a particular runtime is included just because a photograph shows a complete set.
If you already own a compatible battery, its weight may influence the gun's stability and handling. If you are starting from scratch, compare the cost of the necessary power source with the total cost of the project. The simplicity of a cordless tool must be evaluated along with its essential accessories.
Recharge only according to the instructions, with the appropriate charger, away from the hot gluing station. Discard a damaged battery and do not modify its interface. Cordless operation removes a cord while working; it does not eliminate electrical or heat-related precautions.

100W glue gun 2 min warm-up compatible with 18V Makita batteries — Yofidra
- 18V power source advertised: a cordless configuration during use, with compatible battery to be confirmed.
- 11 mm sticks indicated: a precise diameter for selecting the appropriate consumables.
- 2 to 3-minute preheating announced in the description: allow for this time before the first test, without guaranteed timing.
- Two offers displayed, without battery or with two batteries: choose the configuration after verifying its exact contents.
The announced compatibility with certain 18V Makita batteries must be confirmed by reference. Hot glue does not replace a load-bearing assembly and is not automatically suitable for all materials.

3. Choose glue sticks of the correct diameter

The diameter announced for this gun is 11 mm. A stick that is too thin or too thick should not be used to see if the mechanism will eventually pull it through. Respect the format and the device's requirements: glue supply is part of its operation, not an improvised adjustment.
Diameter is only a first filter. Also look at compatible materials, application temperature, and the stick's service conditions. Glue intended for a decorative project does not become weather-resistant just because it passes through the same gun.
Do not randomly mix sticks of unknown formulations or recovered scraps. Keep their packaging to find the instructions and reference. If you want a specific color, first check its technical compatibility rather than choosing only based on the appearance of the glue.
Plan for a small supply adapted to your creation. You will avoid finishing an assembly with a different consumable due to insufficient quantity. Also test for discretion: a thin, well-placed dot may be enough where a large mass becomes visible and interferes with the two pieces fitting together.
4. Adapt the work rhythm to the heating speed

The product description announces a preheating time of about 2 to 3 minutes. This is a commercial indication, not a guaranteed time under all conditions. Follow the instructions and do a test on a scrap piece before applying glue to the decoration you wish to preserve.
Glue that is not coming out correctly will not be cleared by squeezing the trigger. Check the heating status and the consumable according to the device's procedure. Do not insert metal objects into the nozzle and do not disassemble a hot part to speed up work.
Prepare pieces in small batches to maintain a steady movement. Apply the necessary quantity, put the surfaces in contact, then let them cool without stressing the assembly. The exact time depends on the glue and the conditions; an apparent surface set does not always mean complete cooling.
If your project requires long continuous lines, test the system's capacity on a representative scrap. The advertised 100W power is not enough to promise a constant flow for all uses. For light decoration, control of the glue point often matters more.
5. Plan for a secure rest position and complete cooling

Reserve a stable, heat-resistant, and clear resting area. The nozzle must not touch the tabletop or any flammable element. Keep children and pets away from the workstation. A cordless tool can still tip over if its base is resting half-on a mat or an object.
Do not smooth hot glue with your finger and do not hold a small piece right in front of the nozzle. Prepare appropriate support before application. If the surfaces are too small to keep your hands at a distance, revise the assembly or choose another compatible method.
After the session, cut the power according to the instructions and let the device cool on its stand. Remove the battery when the procedure dictates and do not store the gun while still hot in a closed box. Drips should only be treated with a compatible method, without contact with the hot nozzle.
A good purchase therefore combines compatible material, verified power supply, adapted glue stick, controlled flow, and secure positioning. Consult the product page and its options to confirm these points before ordering. You will have a tool chosen for your creation, rather than a promise of glue that works everywhere.
A cordless glue gun is useful when its mobility meets a real need and the glue, battery, and materials are compatible. Check the Yofidra configuration, then validate your assembly on a scrap piece before creating the final decor.
