3. Adjust the planer without removing too much wood

4. Plane the edge with a steady feed

At the beginning of the pass, press mainly on the front handle; in the middle, distribute the pressure; at the exit, guide the rear more. This transition avoids gouging the ends.
Keep the sole flat on the narrow edge, without lateral tilting. Advance steadily without forcing and avoid stopping with the blades engaged: this can create depressions on the surface. After the pass, control the tool until it stops completely, then unplug it before measuring. Check the marking and straightness with a ruler. 5. Finish, protect, then rehang the door
Lightly sand any marks left on the edge, then dust off and apply a finish compatible with that of the door. The exposed wood must be protected from moisture. Respect the drying time before reinstallation. Do not dry-sand old paint of unknown composition without checking the necessary precautions, especially on old joinery.
Rehang the door with help if necessary, then reattach its fasteners according to their design. Check full opening and slow closing, without slamming. The lock must align effortlessly and the gap must remain even. If a point still resists, accurately locate it before deciding on a new correction: do not resume a pass over the entire edge out of habit.
Check the hinge fasteners and monitor closing over the following days. If rubbing quickly returns, look for persistent humidity, frame movement, or a faulty fastener.
