How to restore headlights and polish a car?

This collection combines headlight restoration kits, dedicated headlight liquids and polymers, as well as corded or cordless car polishers. It addresses two complementary steps: preparing a dull or scratched surface, then restoring its clarity or finish with the compatible product and tool.

The four elements to check

  • Treated surface: A polycarbonate lens and car body paint do not automatically receive the same product. Read the exact purpose before application.
  • Kit contents: Abrasives, liquid, applicator, final protection, and quantity vary. Check what is provided to avoid an incomplete procedure.
  • Polisher type: A dual-action polisher is more forgiving for beginners; speed, pad diameter, and accessories must match the planned work.
  • Initial condition: A superficial haze can be restored; a crack, leak, or heavily degraded layer sometimes requires replacement or specialized intervention.

Manual kit or electric polisher?

For a slightly yellowed headlight, a complete kit applied step by step may suffice. More pronounced defects generally require progressive abrasive preparation before the finishing liquid. A polisher facilitates regular work on a car body or multiple lenses but requires controlling speed, pressure, and temperature. Always test on a small area and mask seals or adjacent elements. Do not mix two products without explicitly indicated compatibility.

Preparation, protection, and maintenance

Work on a clean, cool, and shaded surface. Wear the protections recommended by the product, ventilate the area, and avoid any contact with skin or eyes. With a machine, keep the pad moving and regularly check the heat. Clean the pads after use, close the bottles, and respect their storage instructions.
