Which electric sander to choose based on the surface?

The selection includes mini belt sanders, cordless belt models, 125mm eccentric and orbital sanders, and a drywall sander. These families do not produce the same material removal: they cover local shaping, panel preparation, and large surface finishing.

Criteria to avoid unsuitable sanding

  • Type of movement: The belt quickly removes material over a narrow area; eccentric and orbital sanders provide a more even finish. Walls require a suitable machine and dust extraction.
  • Abrasive format: Belt dimensions, pad diameter, and fastening system must match exactly. Check the abrasives provided and their availability.
  • Speed: An adjustable range facilitates working with sensitive materials and finishes. Start low before increasing based on the observed result.
  • Dust management: A bag, connector, or vacuum system reduces clogging when provided. No system replaces appropriate respiratory protection.

Belt, eccentric, orbital, or wall sander?

For sanding an edge, deburring a small metal part, or local shaping, the mini belt sander is easy to handle. Orbital and eccentric sanders are suitable for tabletops, doors, and panels, with progressive grit towards the finish. The drywall sander is used to prepare fillers and walls over a larger surface. Always adapt the grit: an abrasive that is too coarse will dig in, while one that is too fine will unnecessarily slow down the stripping process.

Method, dust, and pad maintenance

Secure small pieces, wear safety glasses, a mask, and hearing protection, then place the sole flat without excessive pressure. Move the tool regularly to avoid marks and overheating. Unplug or remove the battery before changing the abrasive.
