• The residue: dust, dry deposits, grease, or light corrosion will guide you towards nylon, steel, or a precision pick.
• Access: choose the diameter and length that allow you to reach the area without forcing or damaging an adjacent part.

A steel brush offers a more aggressive action on a compatible material and can scratch or remove a coating. Picks are used for grooves and tight corners, without being used as levers.
